About

Michael Colreavy TD lives with his wife Alice at Main Street, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim. They have eight adult children and five grandchildren. He joined Sinn Féin in 1979 and was Branch Secretary of IMPACT Trade Union and President of Sligo Council of Trade Unions.

Michael was reared, educated and worked in Sligo, moving to Manorhamilton in 1981. He was first elected to Leitrim County Council in 1999, was Vice-Chairman in his first year and Chairman for 2000 / 2001. He retired recently from his job with the HSE in order to concentrate all his energies on community representation. He is regarded – even by his political opponents – as a representative with great commitment, integrity and ability.

Michael believes that a new way of thinking and representation is needed if this country and this area are to recover from the current economic mess. “We need to reclaim our economy; we need to reclaim our democracy, we need to reclaim our pride and dignity. We need to elect people with the vision, policies, experience and ability to do the job. Others have tried and failed miserably. It is time for change.”

Michael was elected to the 31st Dáil in March 2011.  He continues to represent the people of Sligo/North Leitrim, in addition to being Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
